Large Hadron Collider team trounces death threats

11 September 2008

Physicists & Scientists proved their excellence by successfully conducting one of the world's biggest physics experiments yesterday amidst death threats that could even destroy the world.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a giant particle accelerator built by European science organisation CERN, started its atom-smashing activity in an experiment which has revealed some of the secrets of the Big Bang.

CERN science writer Kate McAlpine created a YouTube hit with her rap music video explaining how the massive, underground LHC works.

Here is the "Large Hadron Rap" below for an explanation of what the accelerator does:

When the accelerator is fired up, two parallel beams of particles will be blasted around the underground ring in opposite directions.

At four locations on the circuit, superconducting magnets will bend the beams so that groups of protons smash into each other in a giant chamber rigged with equipment to record the collisions and their aftermath.

By doing this the LHC team hopes to recreate conditions similar to the Big Bang and find answers to some of the biggest questions in physics, such as how to explain mass, gravity and dark matter.

Despite the expected scientific benefits, some fear the experiment could create black holes that will eventually swallow the Earth. German chemist Professor Otto Rossler even led a last-ditch legal attempt to stop the experiment.

Windows has all..!

02 August 2008

Generally keyboards in computer are mostly used for chatting and playing games. Despite its functional keys we keep Clicking the mouse to finish the work easier and faster. But it seems to be frustrating to use mouse several times now a days, as we work on multi-application environment with tabbed browsing. Hence we need a shortcut option to overcome this kind of situation, and that could be possible using the 'WINDOWS" key,

Windows Key ( located next to the Alt Key on either side of the space bar ) in Most Keyboards has been used very rarely by us. But actually it plays a great role in Keyboard shortcut functions to enhance superfast computing.

Here are some interesting shortcut actions that makes mouse dispensable.

Window key+D: Opens the Desktop screen in a jiffy, helps us to avoid wasting time in minimizing each window any more.

Window key+E: Opens the Explorer Window, helps us to browse folders and files on your PC ( Default: My Computer).

Window key+F: Unwraps Search Tab to search files on your PC.

Window key+M: Minimizes all open windows and flashes the Desktop screen .

Window key+R: Pops up the Run dialog box when you need
open applications, connect to servers, IP addresses and more.

Alt+Tab: Flips through your open applications like a page, so you can pick exactly what you want.

Window key+Pause/Break: Takes you straight on to System Properties, giving you info about your processor, ram and other tabs for more detailed specifications.

Window key+F1: "Your Help is just two buttons away", Pops out Windows Help Tab in a flick, where you get the solution for your queries.

Window key+L: Locks your Computer when you need to take a break and get your steaming cuppa or cold coffee. Windows will only log back after you type in the password.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc: Opens Task Manager. This is a substitute for that fuddy-duddy ctrl+Alt+delete. It lets you see what programs are running and you can close them if they're not responding.

Shortcuts helps in better Computing so try to use more of them in your work but not in your life...!

Vodafone India pre-registering Apple iPhone Customers

26 June 2008

Hello Readers,

Its already been a tug-of-war between Bharthi Airtel and Vodafone India for the Launch of Apple iPhone 3G to India.

By this time, Vodafone India has apparently started pre-registering interested customers for the Apple iPhone which is scheduled to launch later this year. The company said that the device would be launched very soon in the Indian market. However no dates are released. Vodafone is also saying that the device would only support the 2G networks in the Indian market. Apple had hinted that all the markets would get the new 3G enabled device. The company has given out very little info. Looks like they just want to book customers so that they are not taken away by Airtel who are also going to launch the iPhone in India.

Just to be clear, Vodafone doesn't appear to be saying anything about the advance selection of iPhone 3G plans and contracts, probably because there's still no Indian launch date for the device. July 11 has been mentioned as a possible date, but I suspect Apple has its hands full already and will put off the Indian launch for a bit. The lack of a 3G network in India also complicates things a bit, since it means that the iPhone will be limited to slower EDGE speeds, possibility limiting some features.

Data speeds aside, all Vodafone seems to be trying to do with the preregistration is gauging consumer interest, and perhaps trying to get an edge on Indian iPhone 3G rival Bharti Airtel. The preregistration page looks quite similar to O2's site, as it just asks for contact information and Vodafone status. It's unclear for the moment if Vodafone will be offering contract preselection in the future, though.

Whatever, Its been a pleasure to all Vodafone India users. So, hurry and reserve a place in iPhone Indian Debut's queue.
