In 2007, more than 8.8 million tourists and adventurists, including 339,000 foreigners, came over the state. Kullu-Manali has emerged as a favourite tourist destination and considered the most visited hill station last year. But since the ranges are huge and takes a long time to cover the peek point, most of the visitors spend almost a day in travelling. Hence to facilitate the tourists, the government is introducing heli-taxi services in tribal areas of the state to tap high-spending adventure tourists. Travel agents are happy with the decision, saying poor air connectivity within the state is proving a deterrence to the tourism market.
